Donald S. Heintzelman Conservation Library
Located on the ground floor of our Osprey House visitor center, LGNC’s conservation library was named in honor of the late Donald S. Heintzelman, founder of Wildlife Information Center – now known as Lehigh Gap Nature Center. Throughout his career, Heintzelman amassed a large collection of books and archival materials, over 1,000 of which were donated to LGNC. This non-lending research library now includes over 5,500 books and 200 periodical collections, as well as more than a dozen archival collections. Alongside the library’s myriad ecology and ornithology publications, visitors will find important materials pertaining to the environmental history of the Lehigh Gap and raptor research and conservation along the Kittatinny Ridge. New publications are added annually.
Thanks to the dedication of LGNC’s volunteer Archivist, all collections have been sorted and cataloged. Search our most up-to-date catalogs below.
