Environmental Education programs
for your group

Lehigh Gap Nature Center’s programs are developed in partnership with the schools and community groups we serve. We are happy to tailor our programming to meet the needs of each partner. Our programs are led by professional environmental educators and retired K-12 teachers. All of our field trips are priced individually depending on length, type of activity, how many staff are needed, and more. We can also develop custom education programs for all age groups. Here are some of the programs we offer:

Pre-K and Kindergarten

  • Storytime – Read a nature-themed story with complimentary game, craft, nature walk, activity, and/or animal meet-and-greet (recommended for groups of 30 and under).
  • Nature stations – Great for a large group. Cycle through different indoor/outdoor activities around the nature center.

Elementary School (1st-5th)

  • Nature stations – Great for a large group. Cycle through different indoor/outdoor activities around the nature center.
  • Experiential field trip – Participate in hands-on activities like learning to use binoculars and microscopes, hiking, and more.
  • Guided hikes – Enjoy a longer nature walk around the Osprey House or hike 2+ miles with your group covering a topic of your choice.

Middle School (6th-8th)

  • Guided hikes – Learn about the history/ecology of the Lehigh Gap or a topic of your choice while hiking 2+ miles through our Refuge.
  • Bake Oven Knob Hawk Watch – Meet us at Bake Oven Knob, where we run our fall hawk count. Hike up to the lookout in search of migratory raptors. Includes a pre-field trip virtual or in-class program to present hawk ID and the history of Bake Oven Knob.
  • Freshwater ecology – Learn about our local watershed and get a close look at what lives in rivers and ponds using microscopes in our science lab.

High School & College (9th grade and up)

  • Guided hikes – Learn about the history/ecology of the Lehigh Gap or a topic of your choice while hiking 2+ miles through our Refuge.
  • Bake Oven Knob Hawk Watch – Meet us at Bake Oven Knob, where we run our fall hawk count. Hike up to the lookout in search of migratory raptors. Includes a pre-field trip virtual or in-class program to present hawk ID and the history of Bake Oven Knob.

Self-guided Field Trip Package

Want to bring your group and explore the Refuge on your own? Contact us to reserve a date. We will work with you to pick the best trail for your group and give you resources for topics of interest to meet the goal of your field trip. We can share historical photos, videos, and talking points at your request to utilize before, during, or after your visit.

On-site In-service and Professional/Curriculum Development

Looking to bring your staff to the Gap? We offer in-service training and professional development opportunities.
