Speaker Series: Appalachian Mushrooms with Luke Smithson
January 14, 2027 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
“Appalachian Mushrooms: the Good, the Bad, and the Misunderstood” — Luke Smithson
Description: Join us in person at Lehigh Gap Nature Center for a Speaker Series presentation from Luke Smithson from the Philadelphia Mycology Club. The Central Appalachians have a huge diversity of temperate fungi that affect almost all aspects of the ecosystem. From the human perspective, some of these mushrooms are “good”, some are “bad” and most are pretty misunderstood. Presenter Luke Smithson will showcase some of the cool mushrooms that can be found around the Lehigh Gap Nature Center and discuss their varied interactions with plants, animals and other fungi.
