Field Trips, In-Class Programs, and Teacher Workshops
A wide variety of field trip and in class programs can be arranged to be presented by Lehigh Gap Nature Center Staff to your group. The list of programs and field trips is developing. Each of these programs was designed in conjunction with teachers. We will be happy to custom design new programs and field trips along with teachers. Modest fees are requested for this service.

Lehigh Gap Nature Center Field Trip Topics
- Ecology Walk – Lehigh Gap Restoration Project, all basic ecological topics covered (11 stations with worksheets)
- Ecosystem Comparison – ecosystem ecology, comparison chart for five ecosystems, discussion questions

- Succession plots – field activity, collecting data, plant identification
- Geology – a walk through the Gap looking at formations that illustrate plate tectonics, sedimentary rock formation, erosion; also rock classification activity
- Pond Study – nets, water quality equipment, microscopes
- River/Stream Ecology – notes, worksheet, nets, water quality equipment, macroinvertebrate biodiversity index, pond/stream comparison
- Bird Study – four activity worksheets, beaks and feet, bird chart
- Percent Cover Analysis – field lab with data collection and math
- Birds of Prey – Raptor migration, raptor adaptations, draw a hawk, raptor identification, field trip to Bake Oven Knob
- Invasive species – collect samples, characteristics, create an invasive species, invasive species activity
Pollination – uses habitat gardens, cameras, computers to study pollination, pollinators, and plant reproduction- Scavenger Hunts
- Forest Ecology – (field trip) worksheets
- Primary programs – amphibians, birds, helping wildlife in your backyard
- Trees – tree activity, cameras, digital herbarium, tree identification with keys
- History – A walking tour exploring the history of Lehigh Gap and surroundings

Fee Schedule
- Field Trips: First hour — $50; additional hours $25 (Note that a typical trip lasts 2-3 hours.)
- In Class programs for students: $30/hr. from time leaving LGNC to return plus mileage reimbursement at IRS rate
- Teacher Workshops/In-service: Half day – $250, Full day – $400
- Curriculum Development and Leadership: $50/hour plus mileage reimbursement at IRS rate
- Longer Term Rates – are negotiable
