Veery

Veery Flight Call

Description: A medium-sized bird (about the size of a robin) with a very rusty back and wings with light gray spots on the throat.

Where to look: Veeries are often found in forests near wet areas, especially hemlock or spruce forests near a stream.

Sound: The song is a beautiful, descending veer-veer-veer-veer.

Note: The Veery is a very vocal nocturnal migrant, so its flight call can be heard overhead at night during the migration season.  This call is a buzzy, often descending veeer.
