Purple Finch

Purple Finch sound

Description: The males of this finch are reddish-purple and appear as if they were dunked in wine.  The females are brown and striped.

Where to look: In eastern Pennsylvania, this species can be found along woodland edges.  It also regularly visits feeders.  It is more common during the winter, although it does breed in Pennsylvania.

Sound: A whistled ramble.
