The Lehigh Gap Nature Center will dedicate its new visitor and education building on July 16, 2010 with a ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Join us and our partners for the dedication of the new facility. There will be an open house preceding the dedication ceremony from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Congratulations to two LGNC interns who recently graduated from Moravian College.

Meredith Wright, a Environmental Studies/Policy and Economics Track major at Moravian College, attended the Undergraduate Research Poster Conference at the Capitol in Harrisburg on October 20 to present a poster entitled, “Annotated Bibliography Of The Palmerton Zinc Superfund Site And The Lehigh Gap In Pennsylvania”.   The work was carried out the past summer under the direction of Diane Husic, Professor of Biological Sciences at Moravian College and a member of the Board of Directors at LGNC, and LGNC Executive Director Dan Kunkle, and was supported by a DCNR Wild Resources Grant and the Moravian College SOAR program.

Welcome to the new Lehigh Gap Nature Center website. The site was launched August 11, after working over the summer with web designer B. J. Novack of Done in Style to develop a site that we hope will well serve LGNC members and other visitors. It is our plan to continue to add new features and information in the coming months, and we encourage you to contact us with comments and suggestions as to what you would like to see included.

Bumble bees are important pollinators for both agricultural and wild plants, but we know little about their natural history in North America.  If you have observed a bumble bee nest, please fill out this survey for Athena Anderson at the University of Georgia.  Learn more about the program (and bumble bees) at her website.
