Spring Clean-up

Help with spring clean-up around the Osprey House and refuge — gardening, cleaning nest boxes, trail maintenance, and clean chores. Come for the entire time or a few hours.

Natural History Hike

Meet at the Osprey House by 8:45am to carpool to Lehigh Furnace Gap for a hike back to the Osprey House. Five miles, mostly flat or downhill, sometimes rocky.

Experience great views, good birding, and the blooming of wildflowers such as Pink Lady-Slippers, Pinkster Azalea, and Polygala.

Bring lunch and water.

We will return around 2:00pm.

Bird Walk with Lehigh Valley Audubon

Come to see breeding birds of the refuge including Baltimore and Orchard Orioles, Wood Ducks, Prairie Warblers, and Eastern Wood-Pewees.

In past years, we have seen unusual late spring species including Olive-sided Flycatcher and Worm-eating Warbler. We have also seen the rare River Otter on this spring walk.

Whip-poor-will Hike

A hike from the Osprey House to the communication towers via the Charcoal and North Trails. We will reach the towers near sunset and walk down Translator Lane after dark. In the past, we have heard up to 10 Whip-poor-wills along the road.

This is a six-mile hike. Bring a flashlight.

This is an Allentown Hiking Club/LGNC event.

Naturalists Hike

Come and see these beautiful insects including Calico Pennants, Twelve-spotted Skimmers, Spicebush Swallowtails, and Orange Bluets!
